Funny thing—I found Of Human Bondage at a free book swap last week, so now I’ve got that on the reading list. I think it will be more of a slog to read (it’s also just much longer!) but with Cakes and Ale as a warm-up to Maugham, I feel prepared to take on his most famous piece.

Aw, I’m happy that you both have seen the compelling bits of Lord Dismiss Us from my reaction. It was such a challenge to describe but there really is something interesting there for a person into that social setting and how it’s looked in different eras. It’s got visions of masculinity in spades!
